Free Resources

The mission of Awaken Tango includes sharing long-form content from thought-leaders that the world tango community can benefit from.

We want to provide a platform for material that will help tango organizers in the following ways:

  • Help access funding

  • Help create transformative, enjoyable, and effective learning experiences

  • Help build safe and resilient communities

  • Help create effective, cost-efficient marketing

The material on this page is shared freely as a starting point for an innovation ecosystem that will support the growth and resiliency of tango communities all around the world. We look forward to publishing resources from more contributors.

If you have a submission, please contact us. We are looking for long form content that aligns with the Awaken Tango Values and are implementable (on a small budget); promote equality; promote compassion; come from actual, lived experience (nontheoretical); and are effective/motivating (e.g., at attracting/retaining dancers, building skill).

We’d also like to hear what kind of content you’d be more interested in. Please let us know.

You may download the first three resources after completing the form at the bottom of this page.

The 12 Fundamental Techniques of Tango

Oxygen Tango-two 32382 1.jpg

A one-page tango beginner’s rubric that can be used as a poster or handout. It’s very helpful to have a very simple, usable, clear rubric for basic tango techniques and what it means to be competent (or not competent) in each of them.

Tango Levels: The 22 Techniques of Tango

Oxygen Tango-two 32662 1.jpg

This 21-page paper is an introduction to tango levels, and an attempt to provide a meaningful descriptive framework for growth.

It provides context on where this initiative came from, introduces the 22 techniques and provides a rubric that articulates 4 levels of skill for each technique, and offers some notes on holistic growth as dancers and community members. There is a self-assessment tool.
