The Tango Challenge is for open-minded, brave, committed, creative, heart-centered local organizers. If that sounds like you, we’d love to explore working with you.
How does the Tango Challenge help me as a teacher/community organizer?
The Tango Challenge provides you with a proven, flexible retention strategy that helps you grow your community of committed, motivated learners.
Benefits of the Tango Challenge:
Retain your beginners til they get over the hump
Re-engage your intermediate and advanced students by giving them leadership roles
Increase the size of your classes and practicas
Grow the size of your tango community
Learn new teaching and facilitation skills
Make good money offering a sound program
Exercise your creativity to adapt the course to you
What do I need to do, if I want to offer the Tango Challenge?
We are growing the network of organizers slowly and intentionally to support the integrity of the program. That said, you may be a good fit for our early roll-out if:
Offer 2 nights of tango per week, ideally class/lab and practica. These can be classes you personally teach, or classes you organize/endorse.
80% of this instruction must explicitly encourage and model learning both roles
Recruit 1 intermediate tango dancer to be a "buddy" to each cohort member in your community, who practices with them 15 minutes at practica each week for 2 months
Coordinate and host a field trip to a milonga with your cohort members
We encourage you to offer 15-minute private lessons during practicas to cohort members (paid or not, your choice)
Arrange for a student demo at a local practica or milonga
Does this sound like you? If so, please tell us more about you.
New! The Micro-Challenge
We know a lot of community organizers need more ways to build enough of a critical mass to be able to offer the Tango Challenge or a similar program. So we are developing the Micro Challenge, a very lightweight program to support more peer-to-peer connecting and practice for groups of as small as 4 students, for as few as 6 weeks! Take a peek
What is the cost of offering the Tango Challenge?
You set a price for the Tango Challenge that covers the cost of offering the program and feels great to you. For reference, communities set tango tuition around $600 per person for the 12-week program.
We will work together to set up either a % or flat fee arrangement for use of the Tango Challenge materials that works for you given your circumstances. New organizers will need 3-5 hours of training time at $110/hour. Scholarships may be available.
The Tango Challenge is a registered trademark. Our objective is to support the growth of tango, while protecting our ability to keep developing programs and innovations.
What if I want to build on the Tango Challenge concept so it fits my community better?
YES! We want you to do that!! While the Tango Challenge program is something we feel confident you can use right out-of-the-box, we encourage you to create and test out your own variations on the material, whenever you have the inspiration and bandwidth, based on your creativity and your unique community's needs! And, you can share what you discover with the growing community of facilitators. Your license will allow you to create your own derivative works based on the materials we share with you.
